Hello All
I would like some opinions regarding a bathroom remodel. I am currently in the middle of the remodel and some questions / difference of opinion have come up. Nothing major just trying to avoid problems downthe road.
1) I used to have tile set with adhesive on the floor. The tiles have been removed however some adhesive remains. My question is regarding the replacement with new tile set in thinset. Will the remaining adhesive effect the thinset/bonding? I can scrape but would refer not to. I can replace the florr or go over with 1/4 inch ply but is this really necessary?
2) I am replacing a fiberglass tub/shower unit with cast iron and tile. I am using concrete board on wall for base with thinset. My question is am I completely insane to put concrete board on the ceiling as well or will greenboard be ok? I told my contractor this is what I wanted and would be willing to pay the difference – but he put greenboard on anyway and now I want some confirmation that a) I am nuts and forget about it or b) swith and feel better mentally
3) Related to concrete board issue. Does the concrete board need nailer boards along top line of tub (hoizontaly between studs). Or at the seams of the concrete panels? I would think it would help in providing secure attachment/less deflection for tiles OR am I just overbuilding?
Thanks in advance for any input/comments/suggestions ( and yes… unsolicited opinions regarding anal retentive clients)
