I ripped out the delaminating subfloor from my bathroom in a 1960 raised ranch, roughly 12’x6′. I installed 3/4″ tg dryply over the joists and a second layer under the tub, which has also been replaced.
Our initial plans for heated tile over Ditra have changed to a gluedown LVT, and as a result the thickness is much thinner. My plan is to extend the second layer of ply (currently sticks out in front of the tub about 1/8″) to cover the floor, and stagger the joints roughly 12″ from the initial layer.
Is there any reason to use tg ply on this layer?
Is adhesive needed between the layers?
Am I missing anything?

No reason at all, just screw it down tight and use adhesive as an insurance policy. I'd stagger the joints half the sheet to add rigidity.
The stagger I mentioned is because the remaining open space (between tub and hallway) is about 108", I was trying to use 3 x 36" wide panels to avoid a narrow 12" wide strip somewhere.
I've never used LVT before, do I need to leave any gaps, or should I butt the plywood panels tight (will imperfections transmit through or crack the tile)?
LVT is vinyl, so it will move with changes in temperature. Read the manufacturer's instructions, then follow them.
