Hi all looking for some advice,
I recently purchased a 1921 home and am going through all the major points of concern. My biggest right now is this basement doorway. I’ll attach photos.
The structure is a rafter style roof where the attic was converted to living quarters in the 60s and I have a center bearing wall in the that was built in the basement to carry the loads of the floors above. The joists all rest on the cmu foundation.
My concern is this sill plate in the doorway. There is no support aside from a vertical 1×4 and the sill. It is supporting 4 joists over the doorway.
I am imagining a double lvl header and joist hangers would be the best solution here but am wondering if that is an acceptable repair or if there is a better alternative so as not to disturb the wiring. It has obvious sag.
thanks for any help,
Ty
