Hello,
I recently swapped my semi broken hollow core room door for a solid core homemade one to improve sound insulation, but the problem is that it doesn’t seem to work that well and i’m failing to see the problem, because around my room is only around brick wall so you can’t hear anything through them, but through the door its really not a big difference from my old busted hollow core one ….
Someone recommended me on the woodbuilding forum that i put some rubber seal, but i don’t know how to make it works as i open/close the door daily and the real problem in my opinion might be the gap around the door frame :
Picture 1 is full view of the door
Picture 2 show you that the upper part of the door close PERFECTLY
Picture 3 show you that the lower part of the door fail to close, due to the broken frame might be due to time or the heater causing damage near it
I would like to know if you guys have any workaround because the door gives to the corridoor and it almost feels like there is no “door” which is annoying (the surrounding walls are in solid concrete and the door is heavy and thick, the noise comes from all the gap). The adjacent bedroom has a hollow door but a normal frame which makes it close at 100%, well its working hundred time better than mine and you don’t hear at much so i can’t imagine with the heavy solid one
Thanks!

A door that fits in the frame (and visa versa) will help, as will weather strips.
a wide variety of products are on the market that seal air from moving around the door, and should help your noise issue.
The door itself does matter, but not as much as open space around the door.
You also can hang a heavy something over the inside of the door if you like as a temporary measure.
