I’m in the market for a belt sander. Does anyone know when the last belt sander test/comparison was published in the magazine?
Thanks.

Bosch or P-C are good choices.
Good question.
I too am in need of a new belt sander. I was all set to buy the DeWalt, I liked the looks of the kit that comes with the stand, but have read no positive reviews.
Are the new versions of the old style Porter Cables still as good as the old ones? Vic
The relatively new, small PC, seems to be the one to buy. Reviews were all excellent, but can't remember where they were printed.
This one?

Yes, read that it's good for material removal and can be finessed.
I picked one up in the store. It felt too bulky, didn't seem to have a nice balance. Didn't weigh too much just didn't feel right in my hands. I also thought for a belt sander they're calling "compact" it was pretty big. Vic
i own the pc smaller belt sander and it gets unbelievably hot!
Think it was FWW, a couple of years ago.
I use a PC belt sander where I work, don't know how old it is but has a 8 X 107 belt and runs on 440v.

I own a Dewalt, Makita and Porter Cable.
I burned up 3 Dewalts under warranty. Finally pulled the third one apart before returning for exchange once again. Dang "plastic" cooling fan melted. Some stoopid penny pincher couldn't put in a magnesium one.....I'd have paid an extra nickel for the increased cost not to have the trouble.
I now use the final expired warranty unit to do garbage dirty work for short periods to avoid overheating.
I use the Makita for finer work that requires smoother operation.
I use the Porter Cable.....well shucks.....that thing makes a good replacement for a chainsaw.
