wondering what the concensus is: tool belt, or one of those new vest systems? Right now, I am using Occidental pouches & suspenders w/ a military pistol belt (heavier that regular commercial belts). Have considered a vest for winter work, but dont think it would work for summer: belt is hot enough. W/O suspenders, the belt pulls my pants off! lol

Jim,
I used to carry 25 lb of tools all day long, suspenders, etc. I remember a guy asking if I was going to put a circular saw in that. A chyrop. friend of mine told me that will wear out the little tires in the back. I listened and glad I did.
I go with a customized vest now, and just the tools I need for each phase. Not as efficient I guess. I am seeing some of those back problems in old construction guys.
I'm one of those crippled old geezers but the belt weight is probably one of the least of those causes for me. I'll admitt it got heavier every year and I notice the weight now if I add too much, but I think the bundles of shingles, the jackhammer, the shovels, and the bowing to HOs wishes had more to do with the ruptures and arthritis than the tool belt did. I do wear a skillers vest as often as my Oxcidental Pouches now..
Excellence is its own reward!

I have been leary of the skillers cuz of the velcro...think it will wear out. Love my Oxcicentals, but are heavy. Also felt the skiller material a bit light?
I'm a rank amateur, but I've found (like the pros) that suspender systems are easier on the back. Besides that, side-mounted pouches make it way easier to bend over.
What I'm wondering is, who make the best stuff? I've seen the Occidental Leather web site but I don't know of any other manufacturers.
Thanks.
