A couple of 5/8” foundation anchor bolts recently were damaged during construction, resulting in a 40-45 degree bend in each. The contractor bent them back into place (cold, I assume). As I understand it, a cold bend of 45 degree may be ok if the bolt is of the right rating… but is it ok to bend 45 degrees and then bend back? Is that 90 total degrees of bending? This is a shear wall in a seismic zone. Should I just ask them to add new bolts next to them with epoxy to be safe or is that crazy?

Straightening bent anchor bolts is fairly common practice, but 45 degrees is excessive. Have the contractor replace them with Titens.
Super helpful, thanks! I agree that it seems excessive; and better to be safe for a shear wall in earthquake country. I think that’s what I’ll ask them to do.
