Best approach to insulate old home
We have a 100 year old home we’re working on here in the Kansas City, Missouri area. The original siding is trashed. We’re planning on tearing out the siding and replacing with Hardiplank. Several questions:
1. We’re assuming the diagonal “carside” sheathing is still pretty much intact. What sort of problems might we run into when we get into the siding tearout? What should we look for?
2. The original plaster is pretty much intact. We’re thinking of using blow-in cellulose. Is this the best way?
3. We’re considering wrapping the carside sheathing (after insulating) with Tyvek. Any thoughts or comments? Is this valid or necessary? What housewrap material is preferred?
4. Will Hardiplank install adequately over carside sheathing? Any comments about attachments?
5. We’re thinking of using a prefinished product, we’ve seen that new stain that makes hardiplank look like wood. Any experiences?
6. Can anyone reccommend subs and installers in the KCMO area for us to talk to?
Thanks for any help.
