What is the best? I’m thinking silicone. Thanks for any info.

I've only installed minimal amounts of gutters, but I don't think I would ever use silicone in that application. The big downside-if it doesn't work it's a bitch to get the silicone film off so almost anything else will stick.
I use gutter seal-a stick messy sloppy caulk. But see the disclaimer above.
A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

Parabond.
Silver is best. it's the original gutter seam sealer.

Lotsa choices that are better, we do gutters, alot of them, and Geocel is what we use. They have a gutterseal, it is silver/grey.

gutter sealant
I vote with Sphere. I did some research and Geocel tri-poly sealant appears to be the best choice. I just installed new gutters on a new deck and so far all the seams are leaking. Tried 3 different caulk/sealers so far. Can order Geocel from Amazon so it will be the next one I try. None of the local big box or other stores seem to carry Geocel sealant. Hoping to get something permanent that will stop the seam leaks for a while. Guessing I will have to scrape all the old stuff off first. Not too worried about the joints except for 3 over the new deck from the gutter on the house. Don't want the leaks and stains on the new deck.
Well, Geocel may have been the best 4 years ago, when that was posted...
I don't know, maybe GUTTER SEAM CAULK. Just a wild guess.

Most gutter caulk does not work
The problem, Seeyou, is that most of this stuff does not stop the leaks. Beleive it or not! Amazing that all this stuff is sold but none of it seems to work. I have tried 3 different types on new gutters so far and they still leak. Geocel tri-poly will be the next one I try. Sounds like it might actually work.
Just did some today. Went to home depot for the materials and the gutter seal was right there. I only needed a bit so I used up the rest on something else of little long term importance.
I posted about moving a downspout a while back and just used 90s to move it over. Looked at it yesterday and and saw it was still in the way. Replaced the gutter and did it right. Looks better and is out of the way of the new roof.
I'm laying out and forming for the pour now. Found out my excavation work (by eye) was a little off. On one side I had to dig out a little to get the 2x4 form in and on the other side I have a 6" thick slab. ;^)
Good thing I have some rock I want to get rid of.
I like the Geocel that Sphere mentioned, it sticks and it's flexible.
Silicone sticks to it's self better than it sticks to anything else.
Butyl sealant is the best for aluminum gutters.
I beg to differ. It fails sooner than tri-poly.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Not if you use Alcoa Gutterseal, a synthetic rubber sealant with pigmentshttp://www.alcoa.com/alcoahomes/objects/Docs/MSDS/304AlcoaGutterseal-AluminumPigmented.pdf
Other than the Tolulol buzz ya got from that, I'll take the Geo cel. I can bead and rivet in one swell fwoop, wet or dry, cold or hot, and walk away knowing I ain't coming back, ever, again.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Thanks to all for the info. I go forth today to install some gutters. Have written down all your votes; will see what the local building supply store stocks.
What the local guys stock may not be the best
Hi Goldenboy, This is an old post I see. But for others out there, if you find what I have found, the stuff the local guys stock may not work very well.
I see that you are realatively new here.
Welcome.
I got my eye on you, you'r one of them that knows enuff to cause trouble, being posting links and such on the maiden voyage.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

leery of silicone on anything made of metal
Used to work next door to a glass shop. Lots of cars came in there with rusted out metal around the windows. The cause, according to the guys in that shop was DIY repairs to windsheild leaks with silicone sealers. The said that it eats up the metal. Causes rust and corrosion. They used a very sticky, black polyurethane sealant on the windsheild jobs. Sometimes with a lot of body putty and prayers for the ones with the large rust holes. Hopefully the formula for silicone has changed since then. But I would not want to take a chance on that with metal gutters.
