   This topic is beat to death... and I've only owned about four different hammers, but the STiletto Ti bone mini 14 I have now is my favorite:  Weighs less on your belt, swats nails easily whether you're swinging upside down and left handed, or normally, has a replaceable steel face to make it 'new' again and a soft rubber h andle so your arm doesn't get jarred.

   (sorry for the negativity)

   When I started copper roofing type work, my co-worker had a true Tinner's hammer..pretty cool, and pricy. It also can't pull button caps or rooofing nails that we often had.

   I took an Estwing 20oz mason's hammer , nice short handle, sq. face and good reach from face to knuckles , and with a grinder and thin cutoff wheel made a vee notch for getting out nails.

   It became my favorite everyday belthanger..and if I was doing a solid day of framing, I'd grab my Douglas..but, for most work, I love my Frankenstien. The rockchipping end with nice long reach and leverage, combined with the vee notch works well tweaking in folds of copper.  I almost can't get used to a longer handle again, unless I need a lot of whapping.

   I like the leather handle for the cool factor, but I set it aside, and pick up the nylon handled one for everyday use.

   The main reason for using the nylon one is that once I belt-sanded off the embossed weight/model info on the butt of the handle, I had a nice rubber mallet to bump things into position, snug things up, etc.

   But yes, 20 oz. straight-claw Estwing all the way.

   I love my 14oz Stiletto curved handle.That said, the true winner of the personality contest is my True Temper Rocket, straight claw, 40 years old and is still part of my daily arsenal.
