Best low-maintenance long-lasting windows for wet Oregon vacation home
We are planning to build a vacation home in wet (~70″ rain/year), mild (only a couple weeks a year of temperatures below freezing) western Oregon.
We would like the house to last for decades in case our children and grandchildren are interested in keeping it in the family. We want to keep maintenance chores low for us and replacement unnecessary for them.
What kind of windows should we consider? Wood would be expensive and would need repainting but I’ve read that vinyl doesn’t last long (although the windows will only each get a few hours of sun during parts of the year). What about fiberglass? Andersen Fibrex? I’ll appreciate thoughts any of you have. Thank you.

I have Pella's fiberglass casements at my place in Big Bear Lake, CA. They have been installed for over 20 years and look brand new still. That would be my choice.
I installed Simonton windows in our beach house in Lincoln City, OR. High quality vinyl ones. They've been in a few years and work great. They have a very comprehensive warranty, which is why I chose them.
aluminum clad wood windows would always be my first choice if cost is not a major factor.
I would NOT recommend Milgard. I bought a home in Bandon, Oregon built in 2004 and replaced 3 windows about 5 years ago. I now have 5 more windows that need to be replaced. The seals leak. The "Lifetime" warranty expired when the original owner sold the house 2 years after building it so I have to pay for all replacements.
