Best method to fix foundation erosion from prior rodent burrowing
Hello everyone! FH is the website that first inspired me to get into the building industry many moons ago! Looking forward to soaking up all the knowledge and returning any that I am able!
This home has signs of previous burrowing under parts of the foundation. The previous owner was the original builder from the 60s and wasn’t able to keep up with it before passing and rats got a hold of it. The home has since been tented, fumigated, and cleaned out.
As for the erosion, I had an engineer come by to confirm no structural issues and the erosion is about 6′ away from the pool that the slab surrounds. With that said, there’s a need to fill it in for aesthetics and to prevent future pests from moving in. One of the suggestions from the engineer was to form up the sides, drill a hold through the top of the slab a few feet in, pump fibered concrete in, and vibrate it down into all the tunnels. Other contractors I know and work with have said to just chuck some chunks of brick in it, some mud, finish it off, and call it a day.
While there are no signs of cracking on the top slab around the pool, the peace of mind of filling it all in with the method the engineer suggested seems to be the best method yet.
The other area is a similar erosion issue but goes up through the block where they crawled to enter the attic. I was thinking of forming up the bottom and dropping concrete in from the top (either through the attic or drilling a hole above).
Looking for any and all feedback from those with experience! Thanks in advance!
