BEST WAY TO BOND FLAGSTONE TO CHIMNEY?

I want to face a fireplace chimney with quartzite flagstone. What is the best way to bond the stone (1″ thick) to the chimney box? The box is made of plywood and is 16′ high. The house is in a mild weather climate of California. I am concerned with cracking, eliminating water penetration, and withstanding seismic loads.
