“Between” the glass blinds in window/doo

BillHartmann | Posted in General Discussion on September 3, 2005 05:51am

My neighbor is getting ready to so some serious remodeling and I was looking at their plans.

Personally I have nothing to do with it except I am lending a sideyard for access and thus I have “rights” to suggest changes in their design. I already suggested moving the microwave and refigerator. But they are resisting my ideas <VBG>.

Anyway they would like between the glass blinds and the because of the westerly view somethign is strongly needed.

The looked a Pella they where having sticker shock.

They though that Pella was the only source, but I think that there are others.

I quick google found Eagle and BiltBest. I know nothing about these are if they are even in this area.

But can anybody suggest some decent brands that have this feature.

Not sure if they have windows, but we purchased a pair of French Patio doors with the blinds you mention. They came from Lowes and were installed by their agent. Worth a try.

What brand? They change brands from time to time and not sure that all of the products that they carry are the same nationally. I know that is true in other departments.

Bill: As I recall they were made by Jed-Weld (I think that is how it is spelled).
Two doors, lock set, and installation came to about $1400.00. Pricey, but that's what my wife wanted. End of discussion! So far, (seven or eight months) we are happy with the enclosed blinds in our French doors.Hope this answers your question.Regards, Tomone

Forgetting Pella why don't you like the concept?

      1. Piffin | Sep 04, 2005 04:18am | #5

moving parts will always break down
put the parts between the glass panes and you can't get to themthen there is reale value. Not everyone likes the toys like this

If I am not mistaken they have a regular insulated glass unit, then the blinds, then a removable single glass panel. So you have access for repairs and cleaning.

I believe you're right - the blinds are accessible if they need repair.  My brother put in a set of Pella french doors some years ago with the built-in blinds, and he's been happy with them; they look very nice and they do a good job keeping out the weather in our Minnesota winters.

I hate Pella myself...I think U N me were through this many years ago here,

But..doesn't Pella make these stupid windows that are alledgedly similar to thermo pane cept the inner glass is removeable and blinds can/are built in there?

Justa  flash from a past job I did and remember the windows kept fogging up. Mabe that is what I was talking to about back when,,

We use Pella here, and while I don't love them, I don't hate them either.

The between the glass option is ridiculously expensive IMO.  It becomes mildly less so when you consider what the cost of "quality" mini-blinds would cost, if you like that look.

The blinds can be removed from the window at any time and replaced with either mini blinds or soft shades.  We just installed a house full of these.  Personally I don't like the look, but to each their own I guess.

Apparently the third glass panel gives a little more insulation value, I can't recall the exact number of the top of my head.  Like Andy said, it's a standard IG panel on the exterior with a third hinged panel on the interior.  So for re-sale the future owner could always remove the blinds or replace them with a different color.

They are offered in Pella's designer series windows.

and despite what their sales material and company reps say, they are most assuredly not easier to paint or finish then a standard double hung.

oh yeah, and they're freakin heavy...

OK, I've done been spanked for the reason behind my prejudices, I still dislike Pella. my latest - On the hosue where we used them last year, I didn't put the screens in untill the lanscapers were finished, which happened early summer. So the residentw called the next week asking for screen installation. Sure thing...So I get there and find out that they must have sent the wrong screens. The latches do not line up with the retainers slots in the windows. There is required hardware that makes no sense, and four of the screens do not come anywhere close to being the right ones.I managed to get enough of them installed to get through the sumer and will be calling Pella next week.
