I hate bifolds, but sometimes you just have to use them…..in this case over carpet
How do you all handle the bottom pivot? Preinstall a block that the carpet layer has to cut around? Wait till the carpet is down & count on the side jamb screws to hold the pivot (the floor screws acting more as a locator)?
How do you all like to trim them out? In the past I’ve recessed the track in the top jamb, & not used any trim alongside the door sides….more work than using stop to hide the track & door sides, but cleaner IMHO
Thanks for your comments in advance!

There are two styles of hardware. One the door hangs on top pivot and the other the wieght of the door is on the floor pivot. I prefer the weight of the door on the floor and it is easier to install. I pre install a block on the floor. I like the look of door casing around the opening so that's what I do when I have the option. If you want carpet under, use the top hanging hardware. Johnson makes both.
You sure about that, friend...I've never seen bifold top hanging hardware...bypass (sliders) sure, but not bifold.....
Yes I am sure. don't know part # but Johnson has it. Have installed two purchased from Lowes about 6 months ago.
Go to http://www.johnsonhardware.com Just came from there. Can order online.

I like the block to be the thickness of the pad with carpet over the top of the block. Then install hardware on top of carpet, but fastened to the block. Both blocks on carpet and carpet added around blocks look a bit shabby to me.
I just screw it to the floor through the carpet. the side screws hold it while the bottom screw just keeps it anchored. Don't forget to cut a hole in the carpet for the screw. one of the first ones i did the screw caught the thread in the carpet and started to unwind it. You'd be surprised how much carpet you can pull up in a couple twists of the drill.
BTDT LOL
Glad to hear someone else had the problem with pulling the carpet thread out while screwing in a screw to attach a bifold door bracket--I had a square inch of bare carpet before I knew it!
I have tried hiding a block under the carpet----big bulky lump.
It really depends on the carpet. It is easy to hide the bottom piece in deep pile carpet, so I just screw through the stuff and bury the bracket.
I did one install over Berber, so made a couple of fancy blocks, oak stained to match the room trim with a Roman ogee routed edge. Lady gave me a big hug for that one.
