I am in need of a very large piece of timber 48 to 96 inches in diameter.I would prefer a dead tree and it doesn’t matter if it is partially hollow.Any length over 8 feet would be fine, species does not matter.I will fell the tree if necessary. Located in Georgia, but anywhere in the southeast will be acceptable.

I would like to build something like this.
Can't tell from the photo, but is it possible that the lower portion was built using a "faux" tree? I ask because I'd be a little nervous about taking a tree like that, hollowing it out, and resting a structure on top of it. Not to mention that the seasonal movement may bind that door up.
Have you considered framing a conventional support structure and having someone cover the exterior to "look" like a tree trunk? We used to create "rock" waterfalls in Las Vegas using mortar and chicken wire forms, sculpted to look like rock. I'd look into doing the same thing if it was me.

When it becomes fashionable to frame roofs and windows that way, I'm gonna have more work than I could do in a lifetime, cause I've had a lifetime of practice doing it that way to begin with........I've been dreaming of the day I could use my talents.
