sounds like a good solution to me, but where I come from a 4 by 4 foot piece of particle core AAAA birdseye maple plywood costs about $500 and change. this may simply be a regional thing though.
the answer is yes, there are door makers out there that can do this. Youll need to spec out your door with dimensions and requirements.
Using plywood as the door is a no-no. With today's plywood youll get warps and twists.
Good cabinet shops can get them made up for you. Pay extra to have the birdeye thicknessed with a drum sander and not a std planer. This prevents the eyes from blowing out.
Birdseye isnt cheap, and is somewhat difficult to work with. Expect the shops to charge accordingly.
Bird's eye maple veneer backed on paper or cross banded with a matching plain slice maple back to balance the panel(no warping) press on a vacuum press in your own shop for about . Edge band you doors first, sand flush second, veneer third. Check out some vacuum pressing sites or go to Fine Woodworking for the advertisers in the back. Do it your self and save the money for a new tool. :~)
