I’m with Sprint and I bought a Blackberry phone yesterday
I now have a phone with unlimited internet
I get Sprint Radio and Sprint TV
Today I was standing in line waiting for a slow person to place their order and I was relaxed watching the show “COPS” instead of getting annoyed at the person who was writing a check and taking 15 minutes to order a sandwich.
This phone is really nice
I can check sports scores on ESPN or the news headlines on CNN while I’m sitting at my table eating in a restaurant

I haven't figured out how to use the camera on my phone yet.

someone was telling me the other day that it's about 130 clams....
Gotta wonder how "jobsite rugged" those things are...
"The company" got me a new phone/radio this past Friday. Finally got me into the current millennium. It has a "screen" rather than an LCD display. I was hoping that these old eyes could see it better than the old one. Surprise!!!!!! - it is impossible to see in the sun!!!!!!! Can barely see it in the shade. Need to go sit in the truck... Oh well - so much for technology. I need to hurry up and build some houses to go into so I can see who's calling me or so I can see who I want to call....
I have an armored case for my Palm phone made by Otterbox. It is pretty indestructable in it. They make them for most of the single plane phones for around $50.
I bought my Otterbox for my Blackberry Pearl a few months ago, and the other day when I was getting into my truck I broke the clip off the holster component. I called Otterbox in colorado, and they were happy to replace it. Spoke to them on friday and came in on tuesday. I wrote an email to them to thank them for such a wonderful experience. Every once in awhile i take it apart and clean everything because some dust does get in.
I carry it in my pouch next to my knife when it is not on my belt. The clips throat is too small to firmly grab the belt strap on my occidental pouch so I just take the holster off and put the phone in my pouch.
Otterbox makes a nylon holster for my Palm. It has a clip on it that will work with up to a 2-inch strap. You might try calling the folks at Otterbox and see if they have one that would work. The other option is to see if there is a boot repair, saddles shop, or tent and bag repair, place near you that would make you one.
Don't know what you do, for me the radio is on in the truck and the jobsite. So I know all the sports scores I could care about. Couldn't give a YO about Cops or much any other TV BS.

You're rightThese will never sell!Just kiddingDon't mean to sound sarcastic Here's what happened to me the first dayI get work assignments via emailSomeone asks for a toilet to be fixed or a leaky faucet etc and it's easier for my boss to just email it to me Yesterday I got my next work order via email over my phone and it really is nice to do business from anywhereI'll find some down sides I'm sure but so far I'm hooked on this phoneI'll report any problems or if I'm disappointed with it Maybe others have bought one and then been disappointed?
How do you email a leaky toilet?

I've got a blackberry pearl. I like the phone but I didn't use the internet enough so I shut down that service. It was costing me $25 per month for "data". I guess I'm at my computer enough so that I don't need it on my phone. I do use the text feature though.
I do want/like the subs to have access to data. I prefer to email the Work Orders and Purchase Orders and like that they can access them from their blackberrys. It saves me the inevitable phone call "I'm lost...I forgot the address to that smith job". Also, the subs with blackberrys always have a gps with them...in their phone!
There are a few other useful features: the camera is pretty good and so is the video feature but I don't really use them that much. I like the clock and alarm system.
You can use that GPS to see where your subs are with Comet Tracker.

Hey Tim,
****HijacK Alert****
I was reading in another thread where you had a good flea control solution...I'm too lazy to look it up...
****End alert***Lefty-I will NOT make fun of the peer moderators, this week anyways....
My son used the GPS to find his way to an address this morningIt's not quite as good as the ones you buy for $300 but it worked great for him. Also wanted to report that my daughter has put music into her blackberry phone and she said she doesn't need an IPOD
I've had my Blackberry Tour for 2 weeks now. Its not jobsite tough unless you get the rubbery cover for it. Even then the keys are exposed. The Iphone has way more apps, but the BB has faster email. This thing takes very clear pictures. I emailed a picture of an incorrect aluminum brake shape with the purchase order and my tape measure in the pic. I'm talking to the 1/16ths here. It was nice to not have to download to pc and all that with a digital camera. I could stay in the shop and handle other things.
I keep mine in an otterbox and not only does it protect the phone pretty well but the rubber keeps it stuck in my tool pouch.
Btw, Opera is a good browser but it should not be used for anything that needs to be secure like banking, etc.
I have unlimited internet and my son says I can connect my laptop to my phone and then have wireless internet anywhereI want to be able to have my lap top at the job site and be able to get online
Is your unlimited internet with your phone? And your computer will use the phone as the server or wireless router?
I would like to be able to use my lap top to be able to get on the internet Currently, I can go to Panera Bread, Village Inn, or Atlanta Bread for free wifi,Maybe there are other places, but I just haven't found them yetIf I go to Starbucks or McDonalds you pay a fee for wifiBoth have internet through some kind of AT & T credit card serviceYou pay about $8 for internet accessI want to be able to use my lap top at the job siteAlso, I want to use my lap top where ever I eat I eat breakfast, lunch, & dinner at various restaurantsAnyway, my son has been looking around and researching this and thinks there is some kind of software that will allow me to use my lap top through my cell phone.I don't understand it but he is trying to figure it out.I'll get back to you when we get it figured out.Edited 8/28/2009 7:41 am by mrfixitusa

Thank you.
I was told by one of those cell phone geeks that I shouldn't allow my blackberry to always have access to bluetooth. He said that if I left it enabled, it shortened my battery life and I'd have to charge it more often.
If I recall correctly you phone can be used as in a mode called "phone as modem" but there are catches....
You will need to use a mini a package connection or bluetooth connection to hook the phone to the laptop.
I was told by the Sprint store that to use the phone as a modem it would cost another wireless data package about forty a month or so.
My wife used to work for Sprint and we currently have apackage that get us Sprint's "Everything" plan for thirty bucks a month.
You can get a USB modem for your phone through Sprint but since it is set up as another line it will cost you more per month on top of your phone plan. I used to have one for work and it worked pretty good except when you got too deep into a building (I serviced Lowe's stores) the signal strength dropped. Verizon and ATT offer better signals in wireless Internet in my opinion.
As an alternative, you may want to consider one of the new mini laptops that have the 3G modem built in....Best Buy had a special earlier this year where they gave you the laptop for 99 cents if you signed up for for a data plan at 60 a month or so.
So....you get wireless Internet on your laptop but it's gonna cost you more $$$$
Lefty-I will NOT make fun of the peer moderators, this week anyways....
I use a Blackberry, and I have an "unlimited" package for data.
Take a look at http://www.blackberyforums.com for the details, but here is how I did it.
My provider supports tethering;
Call them and use a USB cable between the laptop and the phone;
Follow the instructions - depending on your operating system, go into network connections;
It'll help you set up a new modem service;
You have to have BB Desktop up and active for the phone to go into modem mode.Quality repairs for your home.

You have probably figured this out by now (the modem part), but make sure you call your provider first and make sure that the plan you are on supports using the phone as a modem at no additional cost to you.
Unlimited talk, unlimited data and unlimited internet are not the same thing, and the cell companies know how the phone is being used. Many providers are trying to steer laptop users to a usb modem/data stick which requires its own plan at ~$50 a month.
Make sure you won't get dinged first.
http://forums.crackberry.com/you guys may want to check out this site, look up " tethering" most phone companies will start hitting you after around 6GB/month so it depends on how much data you do on your laptop. I know it says unlimited ,but its not...I have the bold which i just got, had an 8800 before that, nothing like the BB. It does everything i could possibly want.and remember KBPS is Kilo BITS per second, not Kilo Bytes...there is a free app called Speedtest, that will check your download speeds in KBPS, if you have the bold you have WiFi available, which wont cut into your data plan.We were the winners, cause we didnt know we could fail....

Thanks for your advice - I hadn't thought about whether or not the provider would object to Tether BerryToday I had a problem with the phone. The roller ball quit workingSo I took it to Sprint and they fixed it by removing the battery and "rebooting it"Now it works fine. But while the Sprint Store Clerk was looking at my phone he said "I see you've got Tether Berry on it I said "yeah I just got it"He said "I've got it on my phone too"He said "how do you like it"I said "it's working great - I like it a lot"He said "cool"He said "you're a smart guy cause that little gizmo is great"I said "my son is found it for me, otherwise I wouldn't have a clue"He said "you're going to love it"I guess now I'm wondering if I should have it on my phone if I go back to Sprint again and maybe I won't meet a store clerk who is cool with it?
I don't know why a store clerk would care one way or another about what programs you have installed on your phone... shouldn't matter.
The biggie is to make sure that your data plan supports using the phone as a modem so you don't get a big bill.
My son bought me the "teather berry" system for $50 and installed it on my computer this morning. This is a one time thing and it cost $50I've used it several times today and it seems to be working okayIt turns the cell phone into a modemI think it will be something I'll use a lotRight now I'm at a truck stop in Eastern Colo and on my way to Kansas and this thing is working great.Computer speed is good
I think I'm going to give it a try. It comes with a 30 day guarantee and that will be plenty enough time for me to determine if it's a good fit for me. I think it is.
I'll have to fire up the data service again for $25 per month though.
The website says it can deliver up to 1800 kbps. That sounds like a lot. I don't know if it will be enough for full length feature films in HD LOL.

You too <G>
BTW:
Have posted here a couple times off the BB, once from scotland, where coverage was very limited in the highlands, almost as bad as coverage in Montana as Gunner said.
Roughly $100/month for international access/phone (no, I dont pay it out of pocket, would not have it if i did <G>)

Keep buying those Blackberry phones. Us Canucks are hoping Jim Balsillie gets rich enough to move the Coyotes and the Thrashers to Canada!
Have a good day
CLiffy
Cliffy,
Do you really think the NHL is ever gonna give Balsillie a team? What did he do to Bettman? Sleep with his wife?
I'm thinking it's all about Hamilton being a small town.....
Or the arena being made outta wood.
What's the deal?
People in Phoenix don't give a rats arse about hockey....
P.S. We'll be happy to take the team in Kansas CityLefty-I will NOT make fun of the peer moderators, this week anyways....
Its more of a question "Cliffy, do you think Balsillie is going to get a team despite Betman?"
Look at the state of affairs now. Reinsdorph has pulled his bid. The NHL is going to put in an offer for the Sept 10 auction in the Phoenix bankcruptcy court for rumoured 140 mill. Balsillie has offered 212. Even if the NHL gets the franchise back, how long can they keep losong money there (or a number of other Cities as well) The NHL is already learning the hard way from the Russian league as far as losong some players.
Assuming some of the owners in the NHL have half a brain, how long can they ignore the fact that Southern ONtario could easily support a team. Hamilton is not too small and the last time I heard anything, Balsillie was ready to spend mega bucks to reno the rink.
AS far as the Leafs blocking him he will either pay the fee or whip their #### in court.
I think that is what some of the owners are afraid of. Balsillie is pretty smart and rich and he can afford the top lawyers.
Balsillie will get a team to Hamilton, just not this year.
The Scouts came and went, can they live again?
Have a good day

Did you by any chance try getting into Breaktime and posting with the phone?
I can do it with my Sprint phone, an HTC Mogul, can read but can't post....
Gunner said if use a different browser, can't remember what, you could post to your hearts content....
He use an iPhone, not an option for me since I'm on a secret Sprint plan...
Lefty-I will NOT make fun of the peer moderators, this week anyways....
Lefty,No I haven't used the phone to access breaktime yetI'm still getting it figured outI'll get back to you

thanks for the tipthe battery on my phone is drained by the end of the day!my son says I have got to put the phone into "sleep" mode when not in use in order to preserve the batterI guess it takes a lot of power to run the display, connect to the internet, etc
Putting in sleep is a must. If I'm not roaming and on 3G most of the time my battery on my iPhone goes all day. Going out to Seattle it didn't do so well because it was searching for towers a lot. And I was uploading a lot of pictures over shared networks. Both are battery killers.

Hey Gunner!
I've found that turning off the 3G part of the unit and the battery life will improve a lot.Quality repairs for your home.

That makes sense. I'll have to figure out how to do that for the next time I travel across foreign lands.

I can tell you how on a blackberry but you don't have one:
Somewhere in your setup files you may have an option that tells you who your service provider is, and allows you to turn off the various services you have.
Your service provider will know how to do it.
Remember, I have to reconfigure mine every time I go the the Frantic States of AmeigoQuality repairs for your home.

When I typed that I was waiting for my wife at the supermarket. Now that I think about it. When I'm on 3G it's on AT&T which is my provider. I only have problems with the battery when I'm not on AT&T. So shutting off the 3G wouldn't really help.

guess somebody has already asked, what's it costing you?
The cost is $149 per monthThat is for three blackberry curve phones with unlimited internet1500 minutes of daytime useThe phone is like a small computerYou have to activate and set up things you want to useFor example, there is a set up process for a program called sprint TVI got it going and can watch TV or go to a news site such as CNN to see the news headlinesThe display is big enough that you can actually see the picture One last thing.Sprint gives discounts I'm a member of the national assoc of realtors and I qualify for a 10 or 15 percent discountAlso if you work for a large company you may qualify
Edited 8/30/2009 9:51 am by mrfixitusa
>>that is for three blackberry curve phones with unlimited internet<<Is it truly unlimited? Verizon's "unlimited" internet is 5GB/month, I think.
I have had a blackberry for the past 6 years. The phone is awesome, I really like it to.
I pulled into wendys drive thru yesterday and loudly ordered a "#1 with a diet coke"My phone heard this and thought I was trying to place a call using voice command. It's taking a little while to get used to this phone.
So, who did you end up dialing? Dave?
yeah, I talked to Dave and told him the burgers were not up to par;)
I talked to the folks at Sprint today and they told me I will have unlimited day time minutes effective next monthThey are doing this for sprint customers who have the unlimited data packageThe catch is that unlimited minutes apply only to other cell phonesAny other cell phone company is okIts not unlimited to call land lines
