Which blade works best for cutting aluminum soffit and vinyl siding. For years I’ve used a fine tooth plywood blade with good results but they’re hard to find in 8 1/4″ Does a fine carbide work?

I use a 40 tooth Freud Diablo blade. It's not the red ones either to tell you how long I have been using it.
Running it backwards on vinyl and aluminum, on aluminum you can do it both ways but much smoother backwards.
I'm a fool to do your dirty work.
I always use a hardened tip fine tooth plywood blade for both aluminum and vinyl. It works perfectly for cutting either, so I can't see a need to use anything else. You really shouldn't have any trouble finding them. They are available in many different brands at all the local stores. It sounds like you have a Sawbuck??
You don't even have to use a fine carbide - just turn it backwards as already mentioned.
I especially like cutting it with the high speed 4 1/2 inch trim saw in a jig track.
