Blend new roof into existing roof
I need to install a new roof on a low slope portion of my roof (2:12) and blend it into the steeper roof (7:12) above it (adjacent to it). I’ll run the new asphalt shingles up the steeper roof a foot or 2, but at that point, how do I slide the new shingles under the old and make it watertight?
(To make it more complicated, the steep roof has 2 layers of asphalt shingles over 1 layer of wood shingles. I assume that I’ll find some building paper in there that I can tuck the new materials under.)
I plan to use sticky bituthane over the plywood, 1 layer of 30 pound felt and 30 year asphalt shingles.
If it isn’t possible to blend the old and new roofs, I could tear off the steeper roof, too. But that raises another problem tucking under a large flashing at the peak.

am I to assume you are using regular shingles on your shallow pitch roof? if so, it won't matter what you do to tie it in: your almost guaranteed to have the lower pitch leak. Regular shingles should only be used at 3/12 and above.
what is your locale? heavy snow country? rain? and why do you have to tie in at all? is it possible to make a freestanding structure next to the other? any way you could draw it out? I think you need to provide a bit more info before a decent answer can be given.
I'm posting a pic of a covered porch I had to rebuild due to leakage...and to make matters worse, they also had skylights!
ps. disregard the first picture. I resized it after the fact and don't know how to take it off.
Good info, Charlie.BTW, you still have one on the way, or did the oven door fall open?If this is already built he will need a perfect I&W shield under the shingles and will need to expoect a shortened life for them.I would no touch this roof without tearing off the uppper roof. Four gets you one that there is no tarpper anywhere in the upper.
