I am having a hard time getting some pictures to turn out for my new set of blue prints.
I wanted to show Blueeyeddevil some pictures and I can’t get them to turn out. Not because of Notripoditis either. 🙂
Any ideas, they turn out to bright to see. I tried in the semi dark, with and without the flash. Still got snake eyes. What the problemn is?
You’re such an inspiration,
For the ways I will never choose to be.

How are you shooting them. Flat on a table with the camera above? Paper might be semi shiney. Try shooting with the light source from another angle. If hung on the wall, try it on a table.
Digital automatic?

I have a digital camera, I'll try a different angle.
I tried with the prints laying flat on the floor.
Even with the camera just a bit angled might knock that glare down.
On the floor, turn off a light if above. Still use no flash, ambient light from elsewhere in the room.
For a portrait shot (passpt) I had to use a clamp on, but pointed up to the ceiling, otherwise looked like a deer in the headlights.

Getting closer. How bout a bit of angle and use the flash, or more background light-not directed right down on it.
You're almost making me go get the clamp on, camera and whatever else is necessary and try it.A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

Well here are some crappy pictures of the house. Front and rear elevations.
First floor 2,392 sq ft
second floor 1,283
Around 100 lineal ft of walk out basement
800 sq ft garage
Trussed roof
But the kicker is the HO insists on panelized walls. So the walls will be built offsite and shipped to us. So floors, stairs, roof, and probably some other odds and ends will be on us. No big deal.
You want in on this one? He wants to go as soon as frost laws are lifted.
This is meant for Blue but I can't get his name to come up off the others list.
.....This is meant for Blue but I can't get his name to come up off the others list. can't you just type" blueyedevil " in the others window when it pops up or are there more shenanigns going on the site today ?it's working for me anyway...haha.

Can you bump up your resolution?I just shot this, on the floor, 2048x1536 res, with flash. Knocked it down to 640x460 for the dial-up wussies. This is a black "blue" print...real blue prints might be another issue. BumpThe drop down list only shows those who have posted in the thread or who or online at the time (I think that the last part is true). And you can click on other and type in their name, but you need to know the spell. Blue recently posted in another thread so I was able to copy and paste..

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
I tried it a few times and it said no such member. Now that he has chimed in all is well.
whew.......glad that's over we just have to continually outsmart these computers.

How many roofs are on that house?
Stil... Most of all you need more light, try moving to a window. Also, your camera is deliberately underexposing, try seeing if it has a "backlight" or "+1.5" button. If you have to use artificial light, find the color balance control and set it to a symbol that looks like a light bulb or see if it has an "auto white balance" setting...

Quite a few, mostly 10-12 pitch. With a few 8-12's thrown in.
You need a camera that focuses better. Or a better camera operator. I used irfanview and did a automatic color adjust and a sharpen on it.

Alternately, you could check with your local copy place. If they have a large-format scanner, they are often a quite reasonable price to scan to pdf (usually a bit more expensive and lead time to scan to jpeg).
Just a thought.
THats what I am going to do, I tried again and it didn't work.
Okay, I think I know what you're building there Stilletto thanks to the other poster's editing LOL!
It looks like a full walkout under the right side and middle of the house.
This looks like a typical mcmansion. What type of siding is on it? All brick?
What/why is the guy hellbent on getting this panelized?
Are there many/any interior features such as high ceilings, etc. Is the master suite downstairs on right or left side?
Whens the time frame?

I just walked in and I am going to try to get some better pictures in a minute.
The house will be all vinyl siding, no brick as of yet.
I think he bought the sales pitch from panel company is why he is going that route. Oh well it's not going to save him any money on labor. :)
He wants to start as soon as the frost laws get pulled, so hopefully in a couple weeks.
I am going to get the prints copied this weekend, then I need your mailing address. I'll send you a copy.
I am no photographer.
No, don't send those prints. The pics of the plans are plenty good enough for me.
This guy will shop this till he's getting the lowest bid. I'd be qualifying him before I pent any time on it. If price is his issue, I'd like to discuss how much the preframe package is to my onsite panelyzing method. I'm pretty sure I can beat his deal.
My goal would be to qualify him with that challenge. As he speaks and answers, I learn volumes and instantaneously decide whether I can lay down a bid or proposal. If you can answer those simple questions about the interior features, I believe I have enough information to offer up a price.
I'm curious about who's superintending the job though. Is is a homeowner, newbie super, no supervision or an old grizzled guy that actually knows what he's doing? All these things matter a great deal to me. It affects everything about how we price what we do.

keep looking for customers who want to hire YOU.. all the rest are looking for commodities.. are you a commodity ?... if you get sucked into "free estimates" and "soliciting bids"... then you are a commodity... if your operation is set up to compete as a commodity, then have at it..... but be prepared to keep your margins low and your overhead high...."

The GC is a younger guy around 35 or so, he is never around and tells me make it work. I have done alot of work for him, he has always paid change orders without questioning them.
I am sure we can beat his panel deal too, but he is not hearing any of it. The GC has met with him on numerous occasions to explain this.
There are three sets of steps inside the house, one to the basement and and two to the second floor. One of those being a 90 degree set with a landing.
As for ceiling heights the great room is two story 2x6 walls. On the rear elevation its to the left of the chimney with the bank of six windows. To the left of those windows is the master suite above the overhead door in the basement.
As far as I know the job is mine, no other bids being solicited, the GC has signed a contract with him and I do all the GC's framing. I just have to get numbers around for him for framing, siding, soffit and fascia, setting doors and windows including overhead doors and decks.
His guys are going to do the roof. Which is fine after the roof I am doing now I am retiring from throwing shingles.

I forgot to give you the plate heights, first floor walls 9' plate height. Second floor 8' plate height. All 11-7/8" I-joists.
Did you get a different email address? I tried to send you an email and I got one back saying that you mailbox isn't working.
I have had alot of computer problems lately not sure if this is part of it or not. When people don't know what you're about, They put you down and shut you out.

I know why the email is bouncing Stilletto. You are probably sending me emails from your address book because we've exchanged emails in the past. I moved from Grand Blanc a couple months ago to stay fulltime up in Oscoda while I did some school work and I had to drop that old address.
You can click on my name and the new address will work.

I was sending them to the old adddress.
I sent you one through your profile today. When people don't know what you're about, They put you down and shut you out.
If you have Adobe Photoshop Elements or similar program try the "remove color" feature. I'm not by a machine that has that loaded right now so can't remember which tab it's on. Many times doing that will make the pix more inteligable.
Picassa is a great program for fixing basic problems. They'll lighten them up in a heartbeat. Its free at google.com

Still,
Its probably nothing you are doing wrong. Blue is one of the hardest colors there is to photograph, copy etc. It reflects almost as much light as white. When I worked at Xerox, we constantly battled trying to get the machines to copy blue ink. Graphics studios use blue pencils to mark things up so they wont show on copies etc.
Nice looking house though !!

Try to tape the blue print to you picture window with masking tape.
This will back light it so it can be photographed better.
It would be better if the sun wasn't directly shinning on it.
If you have a zoom on the camera play a round with the distance between camera and blue print to find a clear image.
