Bonneville windows

| Posted in General Discussion on February 18, 2001 03:17am

*
We are enclosing a patio area to make a four season room. Our architect recommended we look at Bonneville windows (Canadian company). He says they are comparable in quality and price to Anderson but likes the muntin styles better. We are adding on to a vintage (1740) home so muntins are a factor to consider. We had almost decided to go with Anderson because of their reputation for after-sale service. Has anyone had any experience with Bonneville – particularly replacement and warranty experience? Thanks for your help.

Haven't used them but I know Reno Depot(Home Depot's equivalent in Quebec) sells them. They are made in Quebec, relatively inexpensive compared to other companies. I don't know if that may tell you something.

*Good, not great quality. Installation can be a royal pain in the rear. They make an all cedar window, which I might consider using if I were looking for such a thing, but generally I personally wouldn't use them. Not to say they're bad - and their muntin styles ARE better. Best of all is Pella Architectural, but that may be out of your price range. If the guys instaliing them are familiar with them, and they fit your budget they are fine.Andersens I have also found to be fine, but haven't found them to stand the test of time like Pellas. I have a couple of 7 year old Andersens that already need repair (mechanical not seal).

*Bonneville have crappy customer service. I was forced to use them a second time, after vowing not to after they butchered up some premium priced custom sizes.Second time around they made a series of stupid mistakes, with size and style of wood brickmould for a premium priced exterior french door and made me wait six weeks, and then a further 3 weeks to replace. There was no question that it was their mistake, they just don't give a damn. Both times I bought them through a window dealer, not Home Despot who supposedly handle a cheaper line.I'll never use them again. If you are in Canada, there are several other more reputable window manufacturers in Ontario and Quebec with similar or better quality product.-pm

*If price is an issue....just remember....bottom end Andersen are just as bottom end as anything else. Living in a house that previous owners just filled with bottom end Andersen...and I'm wishing they went with mid-line no-name brand! Jeff

*It is quite possible that your architect has some experience with Bonneville's silver or gold line window. These would be comparible to Anderson. I have used many types of window, and found good and bad with all.I am surprized that anyone has reported bad service from this company,in Canada they have an excellent service reputation. They produced the first extruded vinyl window in Canada,to meet the Dad County hurricane codes back around 96/97 if I remember right. I wonder why ,if you are in the US you are being advised to use these windows there are many more besides Anderson,,why not Marvin,,they have excellent products in a wide range of price. There also must be a local manufacturer in your area who could make what you need. I agree that bottom line is bottom line,,it makes no difference whose name is on the product. As far as warranty goes,my brother ,who sells windows and doors for a living tells me that of all the lines they carry,Bonneville is one of the most generous when it comes to warranty.

          Bonneville windows

Live in northern New Hampshire and had about 83 windows installed in my new construction. Have found they are nowhere near as good as Anderson (that I have had before). They are not airtight and leak air to the point where I get frost onthe wood frames where cold air is leaking in. They keep telling me condensation on the panes is normal and I keep telling them it is not the condensation on the panes I am complaining about. This has been going on two years and a recent email and letter to the marketing director (Terry Mackey) and to the president of the company went unanswered. When I followed up with my building supply dealer who recommended Bonneville, they sent him a copy of the same letter they sent me in 2009 that totally ignored what I was telling them the issue was.

They are terrible windows and they have terrible customer service. Would not recommend or ever use again

    bonneville window service

We installed over 40 of their top of the line windows eight years ago in our custom house, and most are having hardware failures.

Service has been abysmal; never return calls, refuse to deliver spare parts they've committed to delivering, unresponsive.

We may have to replace many with no compensation or assistance from Bonneville.

    very unhappy.

    Bonnyville !!!

Don't do it!!! They are garbage. I have pictures of my cottage with the best view of the harbour and the Bonnyville windows I bought in 2000 are so clouded I am now replacing them with another brand. When the sun starts to go down in the evening you can't see out of them. I bought 10 of the gold series in 2000, costs over $4000.00 including labor. Guess what!!! They lasted just long enough for the warranty to expire. I thought I would never have to replace them again. I will never buy this garbage again!!! An angry and disgusted bonnyville customer, Charles PS. I can send you pictures of my new ones next to the garbage ones I haven't replaced yet. [email protected]

Hey Skerryman, You just responded to a 12 year old post!  Hopefully, they didn't use Bonneville as they were indeed not great and have since gone out of business.
