All……… At age 63 it seems I have worn boots most of my life , such a simple thing as laces doesn’t seem like it has evolved to match the changing quality of boots. was wondering if anyone has any “trade secrets ” to long lasting ,easy to use laces.
It’s Sunday morning and I allow myself to let my mind wander and drink coffee , If you were wondering. Can I pour you another cup:)

Parachute cord, once you try, you'll never go back. Just melt the ends with a lighter.

I've got a pair of Keens with some sort of permanent wrinkles in the laces. Seems like they stretch a little when needed, and don't mysteriously become untied.http://www.tvwsolar.com
I went down to the lobby
To make a small call out.
A pretty dancing girl was there,
And she began to shout,
"Go on back to see the gypsy.
He can move you from the rear,
Drive you from your fear,
Bring you through the mirror.
He did it in Las Vegas,
And he can do it here."
Where do you get that?
From a parachute , silly.
No, we have a local Army surplus place and also it's available from Campmor http://www.campmor.com

Yes laces have not really changed much. that said Go to your local shoemaker if you still have one and they may carry a Kevlar lace that has a warrenty. The exact name escapes me and they are a little pricey but I have heard people buy these laces for there new boots and love them because the stay tied. One fellow a welder said they stood up to the sparks.
Parachute cord is also good, so is leather.
I though that you where kidding. But apparently they are fairly common.http://www.hanksclothing.com/bull_dog_kevlar_fire_resistant_lace_black_63-67_inch_-_3505_buy.htmlhttp://www.shoecaresupplies.com/product_p/195.htmhttp://www.surefoot.net/products_details.php?cat=8&prod=683 different brands..

ebay has great selection of parachute shroud, in about ten colors.
I use para cord for boot laces on a pair of older 6" boots but they have this annoying habit of coming unknotted . . . even when double knotted. Any tricks to avoid this? Other than that it's strong stuff and I've got a spool of it with about 950' left.
I just double knot. And retie as needed, nothing major so far.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Great idea. I used to buy the kevlar ones from Duluth, but the ends never held up. I'll get some this week.
MikeInsert initially amusing but ultimately annoying catch phrase here.
Here's what I've been using, yet another guaranteed to outlast your boots, Sierra Laces:http://www.campingsurvival.com/silaexrubola.html

I buy the braided nylon/poly "rope" that is about the same diameter as shoelaces.
Get about a hundred feet for about three dollars. Lasts forever. I've had them outlast the boots.
Like Sphere, I burn the ends with a ligther.
velco and pull on boots, gave up laces years ago, best thing I ever did.
Modern laces seem to be made of a frictionless material. Try to keep them tied.
I replace them with seine twine - a commercial fishing product for nets and such. I like the woven sennit version better but the ones on the boots are twisted three strand. They wear well and stay tied.

Think back to the Nam, Nails. Forget the laces - put in a zipper.

I was taught this way to double tie your laces many years ago when I was doing commercial landscaping. It is just as easy to untie as the regular way to tie, but will rarely come undone until you untie it. I've got a couple of casual shoes that I slip into that have not been untied in months going on years.
See the video attached.
My mom taught me that back in the 50s. Only way to go.As for product, negatory on the paracord. Too slippery. Sure, if you're tying square knots, anything will do.But if you want to untie with a single pull, and still not have your laces come undone at random moments, you want a fuzzy cord of some sort.Look for texture in your laces, and find some other way to save $.50.That said, I've been known to use tent-pole-repair shock cord for shoelaces, the stretch turning my lace-up Redwings into slip-ons, causing a redneck on one jobsite to call me the World's Laziest White Man.I guess I can live with that.AitchKay
It's a little hard to see exactly what's happening in that video, but I think this is knot here:
http://www.shoe-lacing.com/shoelace/secureknot.htm
I'm going to give it a try, thanks.
That's not quite the one that I was trying to show. It differs at step three, and instead of looping through the blue lace, you loop the yellow one through twice and tighten. Although, I just tried that one that you showed and it looks like it would work good too.
.-If you didn't learn something new today, you're not looking hard enough!
And when is Hop Sing gonna put in the proper length laces right outta the box???
