Bosch 24v cordless drill & circ s…

| Posted in General Discussion on February 8, 2000 09:17am

I have a 14.4v DeWalt cordless drill and considering buying the cordless circular saw. I also own some Bosch power tools and like the quality. Also being considered is the Bosch 24v drill, circ saw & light kit. Noticed the Bosch 24v is almost as light as my 14.4v DeWalt drill and seems solidly built where my DeWalt’s shaft wiggles, bits vibrate and the halves sometimes feel like they may come apart.

Any likes, dislikes or actual reviews on both 24v brands? Or would I be better off staying with my 14.4v since I read in last months FH that the 24v batteries don’t last as long as the lower volts?

Thanks

    Steve,

After months of reading breaktime posts and magazine reviews I bought the Makita 18v saw, drill and light set. It was $397 with the new Ni-Mh batteries. So far really happy with it. I don't think you can go wrong with Makita cordless. I thought the Bosch 24v saw was way too heavy.

    IMHO, jiml

ps, Hope my family doesn't find out I took back most of their Xmas presents and bought this!

*I even took the missus up there once to show her those things. Are they beautiful, or what? Good thing I never have a few hundred bucks in the checkin' account when I'm up there...on second thought...I might go...

*Steve,I am the proud owner of a Bosch saw, drill motor, light set. I went to Home Depot to buy the Makita 18v set but saw the 24v DeWalt on display. Made the guy open one up and let me hold the saw. For me, if you have big hands, the grip is too little. It also seems be flimsy compared to the Bosch. I've used the Bosch now on 2x4's thru 10's, OSB, 3/4" Advantech, Hardie board, and old 3/8" pine plywood. It never missed a beat. The batteris seem to hold a charge well and charge in plenty of time to keep from having any down time. That saw has become an extension of my arm I use it that much. As far as the saw being heavy, Trying using an old B&D supersawcat for a day. Now that's heavy! I would highly reccommend the Bosch. Years ago, my crews would kill for Bosch tools. They were expensive, but worth it. This new 24v set seems to be as well made as the

*Thanks Elmo. You're right, the Bosch feels like a well-made machine. Now to get the money together and sell off the others I have.
