Hello All,
I bought the Bosch tablesaw about a year ago after all the recommendations I got here. My biggest complaint with the saw is the insert. Does anyone make a good zero clearance insert for this saw? I saw that Bosch offers one but complaints are saying that it’s flimsy. I also need an insert for the dado blades.
I guess I’ll have to make some inserts. What’s the best material to use? Thickness required appears to be 7/16″.
Thanks,

John, I made my own inserts from some baltic birch plywood. The thickness was perfect. One for zero clearance, one for dados.
John, first off check the BT Fests folder, hope to see you again. We need some more hoosiers.
I know your problem with the tilting insert that comes with the saw. I think I have mine pretty good now so the work doesn't get hung up. When I needed a quick zero insert recently when the saw was onsite and the homemade masonite insert was back home........I took a pc of laminate, stuffed it under the fence and raised the running blade up into it. It worked on a narrow rip, don't know what would happen if a wide rip. The lam would probably buckle.
I glued up a couple pcs of masonite for the other insert. Never checked on Bosch's parts.
See you in August.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I guess I was on the right track. I was thinking either mdf, ply, or laminated masonite (whatever scrap I have on hand).
Calvin,
I've been busy with work and usually don't have much time to frequent Breaktime until winter months. I saw the post about Calvinfest, Joyfest, Buckeyefest....or whatever is the name of the day. I won't make any promises at this time, but I'll keep it in the back of my mind. I probably won't know until a month before. Any other Hoosiers besides Beckman RSVP'd? It would be nice to see the guys from Hoosierfest again (I know that not all were Hoosiers).
Thanks,John

Douds coming. We might entice boss hog and I've asked Stan Foster to take a break from the stair shop. He's only 5 away. It'd be nice to get he and Armin around the same cooler. Hope you can make it.Remodeling Contractor just outside the Glass City.

I've had this saw for several years, and the zero clearance insert sold by Bosch has worked just fine.
I second the BB plywood..I have made a zillion inserts for a zillion saws..yer lucky the Bosch takes a relatively THICK insert..some of the chinsy sheet metal one need a hunk of LEXAN..or in extreme cases a swiped HIWAY SIGN......great aluminum BTW.

I picked up the dado insert at my tool supply store just before X-mas. $20.00 canadian and it works just fine.

A review I read on the Bosch dado insert was that it would only let you put a 1/2" wide dado in. Any larger and then it would rub. I wasn't worried about the cost. Amazon had them for I think $12. The zero clearance inserts were about $6.
But I made my own inserts yesterday out of 1/2" mdf. The actual thickness needs to be 7/16" so I routed a slight dado (1/16") around the outside edges. Got rid of some of my scrap.John
