I am grinding portland off an old church here in Petersburg VA, I ran a brand new Bosch for about 4 hours total today on hard thick Portland mortar.
I turned the grinder off, went to lunch then came back, now it only starts when I hold the button down and rotate the grinder side to side.
Sounds like the brushes?

Dust in the switch. or broken wire in the cord.

Not the brushes. Try blowing everything out with compressed air, especially the switch area.
On a related note, it's good practice to blow out grinders with compressed air (with the grinder running) whenever you finish a session of stone or concrete grinding.
