Toda while looking through a couple of online tool retaliers I saw something interesting. There was a Makita 15/16″ rotary hammer on sale for $179 but on another tool site there was a 1″ Bosch rotary hammer for $299.
Can someone tell me why there is such a difference in these two prices?

Guys, the model numbers were:
Bosch #112255VSR (1")
Makita #HR2470F (15/16")
There ain't a lot of difference except for the Bosch is a a D-handle. Makita does have a 1" D-handle but it isn't on sale right now, just the one above. Still in all, $179 for the Makita versus $299 for the Bosch.
so that was easy enough...

Are you absolutely sure that model is made in China? Most of my Mikita tools are made in America In fact I've only got one (an illegal import) from Japan.
That is less consistent in the larger heavier tools. For instance, most Bosch named are made in the S Carolina Skil-Bosch plant, but the one mentioned is made in Germany

Not much good to generalize with tool brands...They make some of the best routers, their chop saws are pretty nice and this particular rotary hammer is made in the EU - so it's got the same european origins as all of the other d-handled rotary hammers from other brands.I'll agree they make some pretty huge #### too - but aside from Festool or Hilti - find a brand that isn't making a few doggy doos in their lineup these days...JT
I don't much care for the company...

BTW, the Bosch drill chuck you can buy to fit into the SDS holder is well worth the money. If you don't have your Hole Hawg on site, you can use the Bosch Hammer for your heavy duty drilling.
BTW...
the Bosch model number is 11255VSR

first thing Isee is you mention sale pricing. Lots of times a tool is on sale special price because it is about to be replaced by a newer model with more features. ( sometimes this is not so good - could be coming from an entirely different factory) That said, see that the Bosch is a higher amp tool. The amps is a good indicator of power available.
