Bosch portable table saw breaks down

unTreatedwood | Posted in Tools for Home Building on October 24, 2007 09:56am

I know I’ve read about this happening in different threads, but I finally fell victim.  I was finishing up trim on a staircase, ripping some quarter round and the switch would not work to start the motor….don’t know what happened, but I’ve heard others with the same issue.  I think a new switch is in order, but it didn’t help trying to finish up and having it break down….reminds me of a volvo I used to own years and years ago…

My friends have solved this by working next to a guy with a Makita.  Every time their Bosch breaks down my saw suddenly sees twice as much use.   Go figure.

Okay, I will have to admit to liking the Bosch, even if it does cut awfully slow.

If you think it's only the switch have you taken it off and blown it out?

My old Makita switch would fill up with sawdust and quit working the first time I thought I'd blown the motor. I had to remember after that from time to time to blow it out when I had the air hose out.

I had the same problem a few years ago with a Hitachi saw. Had to blow out the switch every now and then.

excellent point. That happened to my Milwaukee on the router table...once I figured that out, I've never had a problem again. I will seen what happens with Bosch! Great idea."The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a governmental program"  -Ronald Reagan

that would make sense. I was going to take it in this morning, and every time I turned it on, it started.
Can't get it repaired if it wont' act bad! Oh well, I think I'll use it in the shop for a while instead of getting stuck on the site. Maybe that will cause it to show me what's realliy bothering it!"The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a governmental program"  -Ronald Reagan

I haven't had that problem with the switch, but anytime now the rod that connects to the extension fence lock is going to snap.  When the blade is tilted 45° the arbor nut rides on that lock rod and has worn a spot half through.

I just purchased the Bosch table saw. Now I am wondering maybe it was not such a good choice maybe the dewalt or pc would have been better.

All in all it's a great saw.  That's my only complaint.  Well, that and my old Makita can outrip it.

This just happeneed to me a few weeks ago.  the saw kinda sputtered for a few seconds so I shut it off.  then I tried tore start it, but nothing happened.  I tried jumping the switch, and it still wouldn't work.  It was under warranty, so I took it to get repaired.  It turned out to be the moror govenor.  It took two and a half weeks to get it back.

That makes sense.  I blew out the switch with my compressor, but it did not help.  I turned it on and it ran a couple of times, and then it stops, and will not start again with the switch.  I'm taking it in tomorrow.  Unfortunately, 1 year warranty ended last month...of course."The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a governmental program"  -Ronald Reagan

On one of my el cheapo portable table saws the switch did that pretty regularly. I had to take the switch out and apart and file the contacts that had pitted inside. If you can jump the switch and it runs just order an new switch.Let's not confuse the issue with facts!
