I picked up an old Bosch 1634VS sawzall the other day. It doesn’t seem to hold the blades right. It locks the blades in fine, but there is too much up and down play. I can’t figure out what is wrong with it. Does it just take a special thicker blade? It cuts just fine, but not very accurately.

I have yet to hear anyone else say accurate and sawsall in the same sentance. It is probably fine, yes some blades are thicker than others, imho none are "accurate".
Less accurate for a sawzall, then :)
To be honest, I use Hilti blades, 9" bimetal, mostly. Thick and I get from my old boss in 100 packs, very cheap!(60cents each)
