Was going to add this to the Sidewinder/Wormdrive thread, but it’s prob. better this way……….Was at HD today and noticed the new Bosch wormdrive. Got to lookin’ a little closer and….bingo! The saw is actually a Skil, new webbed design magnesium table, new blue plastic handles. Also bevels to 50deg. w/stop @ 45deg., also about $40 more than the Mag 77. Felt good in my hands and seems lighter, too. Anybody seen it or bought one yet? -Ken ( still lovin’ my old hypoid )

Nope. Haven't seen it yet. If Bosch had a brain, they'd have kept their name off of it, and marketed it as an updated Mag 77. Does it have a case?
*MD- Didn't notice a case. What do ya wanna case for, if it can't survive without a case what good is it? :o) Isn't Skil and Bosch all the same co. now? ......Actually, I wouldn't even be surprised to see a 'Skil' version of the same thing. Who knows? Who cares? -Ken
*b Another homeowner. One day we will rule the world.fine. on a whim a bought the bosch wormdrive because I didn't have one and it was clearence marked down to$106. Are you saying it's a piece of ....?Did I buy another idle tool to sit beside my bammerand impress my friends with a tool inventory that's worthless?
*you wrote: i If Bosch had a brain, they'd have kept their name off of it I think we can safely assume you missed the classes on branding - if you were Bosch, wouldn't the name of the game to associate the "model 77" implied brand with the Bosch line rather than trying to save the Skil brand of junky routers and cardless drills ?
*That's old news, Ken! It been out there for a while. I want one, BAD, but I don't need it right now. The greatest things about the Bosch: It looks like they fixed the crappy Skil guard, and a rafter hook is standard. Bosch has owned Skil since the early 1990s, when the 77s became HD77 with the grey, rather than black, handles. Bosch has been doing right by that saw for years.
*Phill,My point was not that Bosch is a bad name. I like some of their tools a lot.But the skil wormdrives are legendary, and why mess with a legend?Nobody who buys Skil wormdrives buys the stuff you mentioned. Nobody.
*Right Mad Dog, that's why, if you're Bosch, you move the brand identification with the "legendary" 77 away from Skil and onto Bosch. You mess with a legend to make money, or more precisely, a return on an investment.
*Possibly. But I doubt it'll work with those who've been using the 77's during the course of the last 50 years. If that is their intention, phasing out the skil name?
*Well, I guess that'll prove one way or the other if people buy for the saw, or just because of the name.
*I could be blowing smoke here as I am going off memory... The Bosch, is actually a Mag 77 with a rafter hook, different guide and "improved" handles. I also remember hearing that it is a touch more powerful than the Mag, though don't quote me.You can quote me on this though: Why did the blond stare at a can of frozen orange juice? Because is said CONCENTRATE.Actually, I read that in my issue of Fine Penthouse-building. Thought it was funny, hope I didn't offend any blonds out there.GNL
