I toasted a new Bostich stapler today. I was laying underlayment and within about 400 staples the plunger got stuckafter setting a staple. I took the front apart and grabed ahold of the plunger with a pair of pliers and met a lot of resistance pushing it back in. I don’t have time to mess with it so I took it back and got another one. I’ve got a lot of 1/4″ baltic birch to lay and I’m wondering just how reliable these things are. I’ve only used Senco before now so I have no experience with Bostich. Wayne

I have never had a problem with the Bostich stapler. We have had 3 now. I have recently had more problems with other Bostich finish nailers. So far had three - 18g brad nailers and one 15g angle finish nailers. The firing pins on all of them had sheared off. I'm really interested if this is the same problem you ran into on yours.

I'm not sure what happened. I
I'm not sure what happened. I took it back because I didn't have time to mess with it. It's an SX1838K model. I have their pin gun and so far no problems.

I have an 18g stapler and so far have 5k staples through it with few problems--most 1-1/2" shot with 120 lbs of pressure. I'm a fan although I wish I had bought one of the factory reconditioned ones that are all over the internet for $60 rather than full price.

Are you talking about the 1/4" narrow crown with adjustable depth of drove via a thumb wheel?
Yup. That be the one.

That's the one I just bought.
That's the one I just bought. Hope it isn't going to be a problem.

I purchased this model couple months ago to use for aluminum soffit / flooring underlay. My 32SX ( older bostich 1/4 crown) finly quit after 14 or so yrs. plunger wouldn't drive and Ididn't have time to get a kit . The new one seems to work fine, love the depth adjustment and swivel air end.
I used mine last week to drive 5000 plus 1 1/2" staples for underlayment into OLD SYP not one misfire or jam
I probably got a bad one. Not sure if being oil less had any thing to do with it. Used a Senco 2" oil less trim gun for years with no problems. You guys see any problems with putting a drop of oil on the plunger itself or do they mean no oil at all?
