Boulder Bag Nailbags

briankeith | Posted in Tools for Home Building on January 12, 2004 01:13am

Hi Everyone,

I have been thinking about giving up my old leather Frankenstein Nailbags.

I have been looking at the Boulder Bag Nailbags, online.

Anyone have any input on the quality of this setup?

I've heard of them, but haven't tried them.  Sorry I couldn't help you.

I'd like to see a link as well.  My bags are Diamondbacks and I love them (for framing)

I have a question on the leather versus the whatever the other stuff is...thread nylon something, I don't know.  It seems like the leather would be much more durable, the points of knives or screws would be less likely to get hung up, therefore leading to a longer lifespan of the product.  Am I right in that, or just ignorant?  What's the bonus to the non leather bags?

Actually, I think what you are saying makes perfect sense.

I have always worn leather nailbags, back to the days when a leather apron was all there was.

I decided to try the nylon bags. I'm hoping they will be a little lighter than the leather.View Image

IMHO, yes leather is more durable, specifically to what you were describing, but in most other aspects the nylon bags are much better. I bought a set of Oxy leather framer bags last year, and they are uncomfortable, heavy, and not set up correctly for my tastes. So I bought a Bucket Boss Contractor's Rig from Amazon for X-mas...I've worn it a week and it's the best belt I've ever worn...pockets for everything, all the bags are laid out right, and it's light as air. BTW, to make the nylon more resistant to abrasion and puncture, I coated the bottoms of the outside "nail" pockets with spray on bedliner (like for a truck bed)-- they won't ever wear out.Jason Pharez Construction

      I have Occidental's nylon framer's rig.

The two main bonuses to the nylon bags is the reduced weight and that they are a lot cooler to wear in the summer. I have had mine for almost 3 years and have not seen any sign of the nylon fabric failing at all.

      Hope this helps!

I have the DeWalt ballistic nylon tool belt. I got it about 2 years ago for$90

Now I wish I got something different! Years ago I had one from California nailers that was nylon also but it was great. I was thinking about trying the occidentals but maybe know I will look at theBucket Boss too. It's important to be comfortable!

Well, I went ahead and ordered the Boulder Bag

      204 Carpenter Comfort belt Combo

and a pair of their padded suspenders.

Just had it a week, but really love it.

Roomy well planned out pockets and compartments and very comfortable.

And a little lighter than my old leather bags.

Fellow I worked with had a pair of the dewalt bags and one thing I notice that is different is that the dewaly bags were fuller and prouder on the hips.

I like the way my Boulder bags hang closer to me.View Image
