I have been busier than a one eyed cat watching two mice. My jobs that had been delayed…and delayed due to other contractors…..all came to a head this last week.
I finished this stairway yesterday. The top section along with the 17 degree winder section was in one unit…the bottom straight section the second.

The pattern on the floor, inlay or paintjob?

Stan, do you have an apprentice? I'm curious because you have such a great skill it would be a shame to loose. (You fly high ya know) But seriously I bet there are more than a few young men and women at the local high school or vocational college that would love to learn such a fine craft.
Oh, by the way, great looking staircase. Do you have pictures of any that turned out bad?

Stan, do you only work on stairs or are you a more generalized finish carpenter?

Justin: I work only on stairways.

Stan,
Awesome work!! I love finished cherry. Great looking stair & rail combo!!! Nothing more classy than bringing iron into such a fine wood!!
I've been on my cherry stairs for quite some time now. I have the newels made & should have the cherry rail w/white oak spindles ready to go in a few weeks.
Newel post - Cherry, White oak, Am. Walnut, Wenge. (I'm curious to see how these woods come together when finished)

Erik: Nice work yourself. I love that newel.

Wow. beautiful stairs.
Sure is a cheesy looking carpet runner they put on them though. :^)
looks superb Stan, is the intermediate newel a code requirement or does somebody just want a beefy incline rail?
whoops, dumb question, I see its a platform.
whats your handrail heights?

Stan, beautiful job as always. Question, most building code require a continuous handrail and don't consider a winder as a landing. How does this railing fit into your interpretation of code? Just trying to learn and not being critical.
Thanks
Bear
Bear: he contractor wanted this detail...and its in the country where they really dont enforce much.
But...you are correct on the continous rail in code enforced areas.
