On my way to work today I saw a gambrel getting reroofed and there were two stacks of 5 packs of shingles stacked on the ridge. I vaguely remember seeing a FHB article saying that’s called “breaking the pack” and a no no. Is that true and does anyone here do that?
Seems like a bad idea to me (especially when its 30 degrees outside) but I can’t see telling a would be roofer of my house how to do his job.

Bob------at 80 degrees it's not that big a deal
at 30 degrees------- it's a bad idea---question is how bad
let's say the upper pitch of the gambrel is 4/12 and a bundle was laid parrallel to the ridge on each side of the ridge with 5 bundles draped over the ridge-------- maybe not that bad in 30degree temps
however if its a 10/12 or a 12/12---and its 30 degrees with 5-6 bundles broken over the ridge--------well then , ya its a BAD idea
But in general---the miscreants don't care ------as the very real damage done to the shingles even BEFORE they are installed----likely won't be a problem untill the installers " taillight warranty" expires.
