Hi All,George here, long time lurker short time poster.
Was wondering if any of you have used expansive cracking
agents to break up rock or concrete.I seen an article
about this stuff in a recent FHB issue. My situation is a
basement that is very shallow w/stone foundation. The
floor is ledge covered w/ a layer of concrete. In some
spots it’s very thin others pretty thick.
I was wondering if this would be a good application for
these agents. If I dug out the floor to about 1 to
1 1/2 ft down and away from the walls about 1 ft
around the perimeter I could get more ceiling
hgt and install a french drain too. I’m worried if
I use a jack hammer that I would disturb the
foundation walls to much.I also realize I need to have a
free space for the expansion before I start also.
And,if this is a good solution,is there a powerful enough
electric demo/hammer drill that I can use to drill the
holes for the expansion slurry mix?I previously have
looked for one but didn’t find anything that I thought
would do it.I rented a hilti for a step I had to demo
this summer and it seemed under powered,or just not
powerful enough to get the job done very quickly.
Just in the thinking about it stage at this time, but
every time I go down there or it’s raining I’m
thinking about it.I thought about raising the house
too but I don’t think that will be happening as the
cost would be too much for my humble bank account.
I appreciate any and all advice / experience and of
course warnings!
Thanks , george c.
ps,on another note, anyone know what the shallowest
precast septic tank is being made?
thanks again!

cawfy, is this Soundless Chemical Demolition Agent what you're looking for?Joe Bartok
Joe,that's the material I'm asking about.Have you any experience with it?I thought I'd ask here before I contact a company that sells it.Thanks for the reply, and any insight you may be able to offer. george c.
I saved the url for future reference in case I ever needed to break up concrete without explosives or jackhammers but I haven't had an opportunity to test this product in the real world.Joe Bartok
Thanks Joe.I was hoping w/all the diverse experience here there would be someone who's actually used this stuff. Here's 2 other url's I found using Google: http://www.archerusa.com/
and http://demolitiontechnologies.com/You may want to bookmark these out as well for future reference. Thanks again. george c.
