I am entertaining estimates for repair/reconstruction of a set of brick and flagstone outdoor steps. Can anyone tell me what is a fair and reasonable hourly wage for an experienced and skilled bricklayer?

Depends upon where you are and if you want someone licensed and insured. For Rochester, NY, the following is from a union website, but they don't give the year. Of course, if you are hiring an independent contractor you need to figure in insurance, overhead, tool depreciation, perhaps some other incidentals, and maybe even some profit...:

MASON - Building
Bricklayer $21.96
Cement Finish (Bldg) $21.96
Plasterer $21.96
Tuck Pointer $21.96
Stone Mason $21.96
Thanks. I am in the Washington, DC suburbs which is probably gonna put the wages at the higher end of the scale. Thanks for pointing out the other costs that the bricklayer will incur ... like the insurance, etc.
