Can I add a ridge beam beneath a ridge board and treat the board like a beam?
I’m building a 12′ shed dormer over my garage to add living space to a currently uninsulated, unfinished 8/12 roofed, 24′ x 28′ space. The bottom of the ridge board is 9′ 2.5″ above the unfinished floor and I am reserving the 2.5″ to add a heated floor. This means that, with a 2/12 pitch on the dormer, my dormer’s face wall can only be 7′ tall on the interior. That assumes I can attach my dormer rafters to the ridge board But is that a legit way to do it?

Long story short (if anyone is looking for this info), I'm not sure whether a ridge beam under a ridge board is possible but I've been told I can use the ridge board for what I want to do as long as I add a ceiling, the joists for which would run from the far rafters of the original roof to the rafters of the new dormer roof.
