Hi All:
I live in Boston where there are hundreds of triple decker homes (Stacked wooden porches front and back), and I get called to rebuild them. Many of these have bowed columns that are constructed as boxes around an internal framework. My guess is that 6x6s weren’t as plentiful as they are now, so the box was a more cost effective technique. When I go to rebuild, I prefer to start with 6x6s and then clad them in trim. What I do not yet have is an easy way to mimic the vertical bow and try to get my clients to take them straight. Still, there should be a way to give them a choice.
Also, I see that KOMA, AZEK and suchlike PVC trims do bend easily so that would be the way to do it, but I haven’t found a good gap filler/adhesive for these products that cleans up easily.

Do the square columns look something like the ones in this guy's thread? I'd say make a pattern or 2 or 3. My trim carpenters have some they made up for cutting the straight tapered ones. Seems like the "bellied" columns would work about the same...
Regarding glue - Azek has it's own glue - works great. It's basically just a PVC glue, but seems a little unusual in that it is water based. It has longer working time than regular PVC glue and is clear. It's not really a filler though. Body putty (bondo) works for that but it's not exactly easy to work with....
thanks for passing that on. There were a lot of useful threads there. Dan
No prob...
