Building a fireplace, where to buy parts
Hey guys. We are in the process of building a house and would like to add a simple fireplace to it. A basic in wall fireplace with no brickwork. Where can I buy the inner fire place box? The inside piece that has the flu built into it? Couldn’t find them at home depot or any other place. Where should I look?

I bought parts from superior clay corp(1800 848 6166). They should be able to give you a list of suppliers near you.

A DIYer builtin fireplace?!?!?
I have been doing a bit of research into this myself.
There are "inserts" that are factory built units that can be installed on ordinary sub-floor and are zero-clearance (virtually). Visit http://www.fireplacesnow.com and call their toll free number and ask for Harold. He's the most knowledgeable guy I have ever spoken to on this subject - and in the course of my research I've spoken to a lot of folks. You might want to consider a high-efficiency fireplace that can be connected to your central heating system - pretty cool.
The can be vented using a metal chimmney housed inside a framed/sided chase.
They really simplify fireplace construction.
Well we finally found a local place that carries them. They want $800 for the entire kit. Firebox, glass doors, and all the chimney ducts. Sound like a good deal? The box itself is 250 if I can fabricate my own chimney.
Johnny, I built my own fireplace using Superior Clay parts. Lotta work, but I'd always wanted to do one. The Rumford design is sweet. A small fire will drive you out of the room!
A caution. Withough knowing your level of experience, I'd done some masonry work: footings, slabs, a bit of block laying, and I have extensive construction experience. Not sure I'd recommend diying a fireplace to someone without any masonry experience.

None of this matters in geological time.
That price sounds very reasonable. I've built my own Rumford fireplace with masonry brick and used the old chimney, and paid to get it relined with SS flue for 1700$, quite a lot for a half-day's work.
