building an “L” off an existing garage
I’m a novice at building garages, I’ve helped people but never done one that already existed adding on to it. I need to add on to my existing garage; this way the wife will have some place to park her car instead of in the workshop. I want to build an “L” off the front of it, outward. My question is what are the height requirements for the roof coming off of the existing one as it will be 90 degrees to the existing. The new garage will use the existing wall of the front of the old one as a back wall and will tie into the existing cieling at a 90 degree angle. I know once I have the trusses up, it’ll go together a lot easier. Please help.

No requirements unless local codes apply.
From design standpoint, it is usually best looking and consistent to have the same pitch as the existing and the ridge connects lower than the present one. To do that, your span must be less than the original and/or your top plate lower. Lowering the plate would really complicate trim for a newbie so try to do it with a slightly narrower garage. eg if the bottom chord of your truss now spans 24', see if you can get by with 22'deep on the new one.
