6:00 AM last tuesday. I’m already at the job for almost an hour, when a worker at the job across the road starts hooting and hollering, “Yee-Haw! We got us a posse today and we are going to kick some ass! If you need any help over there with those footing forms, I’ll come over and kick your ass too!!
I’m a cup of coffee short of taking the loudmouth up on his challenge, but I didn’t need his help with my footing forms, I got them done in time for my inspection that afternoon. After they passed, I asked the building inspector what they were building on the house across the road, and he scratched his head. Hmm, didn’t know they were building anything. Didn’t remember issuing a permit…But look, brand new wrap-around deck, all kinds of material bundled up in the front yard–looks sort of like construction!
Funny thing, I’ve been there everyday since then, and no work is being done. Very quiet. No cocks crowing at 6 am lately!
Thought you’d enjoy this here, since I can’t start a thread in the tavern on this old computer anymore…

*Well placed questions are far more effective than angry demands anyday.Still standing up on your hind legs, I see, Mad dog!
*Sounds like the jerks that tossed their waste in my bin last year. I couldn't figure out where the extra refuse came from so I asked my inspector what other jobs were going on nearby. After he shut them down I asked him about them. I was pleased to hear his idea of professionalism did not include dumping your waste in a neighbour's bin. I feel real sorry for the people who bought the house they were working on. I'm sure the workmanship is junk, given the morons building it.
*Hey MD! Great story! Glad to see yer still out and about, big boy!
*Hi MD,Long time no talk.joe d
*Atta boy dog. What'd you decide on that there footer base?Interested in some new riegle ribs with an australian twist?Wish you good weather and straight boards.
*Howdy back, everyone, good to sneak in here once in a while. I thought we'd have plenty of rainy days, but not a single one in over 3 weeks, been taking advantage of the hot sunny dry days (relatively non-windy too) putting up icf's. All done, pouring with a pumper tomorrow morning. Fingers are crossed.Yes Cal, I'm in for what you said. When?
*See that, some of us are good sports.
*Will let you know when I hear from the stralian. Think you can get through Chicago in under 8 hours?
*Nice to see the good guys win one now and then :-)
*The crew across the street is back and (quietly) working. Still showing up late at about 6 am though.
*Mad Dog, Are they legit now?Jon
*Yep. They've posted a permit. Only took about 2 weeks!
