I resized the first photo for you, 2mb is a little big for most.
How did you make the grill in the bottom?
and this time I'll actually add the photo...
thanks for your picture help.
Grill on bottom was about an hour of layout, measuring very carefully the distance between each place to cut out and where to keep material.
then I drilled 1/8" holes at each end of channel that I was going to cut out.
then I stayed sober and fired up the Makita 7 1/4 circular saw and plunge cut then ripped from hole to hole. I was very nervous and focused at this point. big sigh when done and no errors.
cut to length.
sanded, finished and then on the backside I glued some casing nails I cut off and used them as spacers between the fins on the long cut .....below the TV side.
It was that simple.
Better yet my dad said it couldn't be done until he saw it for the 1st time yesterday.

Sometimes the best motivation for me is my Dad saying it can't be done.
I doesn't even have to be my dad....it can be anyone telling me that something can't be done. Love it when I prove 'em wrong.
Thanks again for the picture help.....what did I do wrong for the next time?

You're right about anyone saying that you can't do it, but for me, my Dad is the Mayor of Pessimistville.
Try to keep the file sizes for your pix around 80 to 150 mb. Anything over and many won't look at them. You can use Irfanview or any other readily available photo editor to do this. I happen to use MS Paint.
thanks for the pic tip.
maybe our dads were brothers? If your dad is the mayor my dad may be on the council. just kidding. it may be a sign of the time of when and where they grew up.
I personally try to stay very real while maintianing a positive attitude.

It's funny you say that, we're both the same age and my Dad grew up in western Minnesota.
Good work on the bookcase by the way.
which town in western MN?
I grew up in SW Minnesota now live in North west central MN.

Wayzata
just went through there earlier today. Nice part of town. Had to drop off 2 28' Gooseneck trailers way downtown ....not fun.

Looks nice.
Here's hoping no one runs a vacuum cleaner into the grills.
There are two kinds of people who never amount to much:those who cannot do what they are told, and those who can do nothing else.
should be ok there, I usually help with vacuuming. Fins are suprisingly strong for their size....but we'll see when they get older and oak dries out more.
Thanks for the kind words

Nice grills, but what are they for?BruceT
cold air returns to the furnace.
