Accounting or project managament?
A little of both. In theory I start a bidding process, win the job and it then becomes project management
I like doing the bid and contract budget negotiation in Excell then move it into QuickBooks for job costing and then ack into Excell for data mining. I know there are packages that do it all but I like the direct approach of keeping it simple.------------------

i use the older version os this one...

Mike can you explain a little about the benifits of the software you linked to and how you use it?
the one i linked to is BuildWorks
the older version i have is GC Works
they both use templates
in Build Works they use QuickBooks Pro & Excell
in GC Works they use QuickBooks Pro & Claris Works
you enter customer information, do the take off & estimate on the template, and it prints a Proposal, Change Orders, Actual vs. Estimate comparisons, SubContract Agreements, Purchase Orders...... everything is linked to the basic document..
and the basic document ( the takeoff ) can be one page ( with labor-materials-subs & equipment ) or it can be the 12 page take-off
they have different levels aimed at Remodelers than the version aimed at new Construction
if you use it , it becomes almost impossible to forget items.. and it is very fast
i'm pretty sure they have demo disks

Right now I'm just doing Excell-MS Project-QuickBooks Pro. I have UDA Construction Office and decided not to upgrade when I upgraded systems last year. I have used Timberline. Just start looking most companies will let you use trials for a while before purchasing. I also recommend checking out JLConlines computer solutions for more ideas.

How big of a small general contractor?
If you are 2-3 guys running one or 2 projects at a time and wanting something cheap and simple, then Quicken has a Home and business product which is pretty powerful for an easy to use program.
I have several clients using it to track projects, and expenses all in one.
But these are 2 man hvac shops, etc.
A medium to large guy named Alan, not an ambiguous female....
NOT that there is anything wrong with that.
