I want to put casings around a door but I dont know how to cut the moldings that have a colonial inside edge I want a butt joint then place a back bend around the whole casing . The back bend will be mitered. the molding in question is a 3.5 in wde base with a inside colonial edge at the reveal

dunck, I think what you are after is the description in the current Fine Homebuilding Nov. #150, pg 98. I've done this slightly different than scott mcbride. I made no jig. I used my CMS to cut most of the way through the head pc miter, then finished that cut by hand. Table saw to remove the waste.The bisquitting of the joint is a good idea. Check out the article.

then do this, make a square cut on one peice, mitre just the profiled part, on the mating piece, rip off the profile the 2 and7/8's or so, then mitre the profile to join with the othe piece. done.
