With t&g panel(s)ing (cedar, pine, etc). what are some of the techniques employed to make the butt joints look sharp and keep tight? Whether your doing it on a floor, ceiling or wall?
Assume that the wood has been acclimatized properly.

back - cut on a 45 and paint/stain cut ends if possible.
tongue and groove router bits ..
If it is an outdoor deck, I cut ends square, blockplane a small chamfer across the end, then butt them tight, and fasten.
Ceilings, I cut at a 45 bevel, lapping.
Walls, I do a 22-1/2 bevel, and ease the end of the long lap with a sanding block, then lap.
What is as important as good end joints, is layout so things look random, and not clustered.
All of this is great stuff.
