another view of butting jig, if you will notice the jig is actualy a tee, with the middle leg of the tee rabbited into the top, it seperates the jamb and the door and is used to clamp the two members together with. The jambside and the door are mortised at the same time and there is no way for error, except if you mortise for the wrong hand. The center piece is removable for re-hangs in existing jambs.
