OK I have bought tools from known online sellers like Amazon, & other well known online companies.
But what about online outfits that you aren’t familiar with.
How do you check them out?
I haven’t bought from Ebay, but I have bought plenty from craigslist, but that’s in person & with cash.
The reason I ask. I was thumbing through craigslist & came across a plasma cutter that I haven’t heard of, so I did a quick google on the make & model & came across the main supplier http://everlastgenerators.com/index.php .
The deals are smokin hot, but I have never heard of this outfit & they have no contact info—– phone or place of business.
So any of you have any ideas how to background an online company?

If you arent coming up with anything in a google search, do you have an 800 you can call? Short conversations is what I'm thinking - usually a pretty good indicator. If it sounds like a chop shop and the guy is saying "oh, da, da, ve hav de tool, ja!" then obviously its legit and you should go for it. :-)

I believe when it comes to welding equipment like mig, tig and plasma cutters it all comes down to the old saying: you get what you pay for. If I were you, I'd go with a Miller that fits your need, it is pricey but you will have excellent customer support even 20 Years down the road when you need replacement parts for your machine.
On the website you mentioned they show a $580 plasma cutter that is supposed to cut up to 1 1/2 inches, sound a bit unreal to me.
Just my 2 cents

The plasma is what I was looking at.
My welder is a Miller XMT 304, pretty top of the line stuff.
I have used plasma that will cut 2.5" material, but that was 3 phase & used more air than I would ever have available.
The plasma they are offering use a medium amount of air (3.5 cfm @ 60 psi) I have 5hp 2 cylinders & 120 gallons of storage. That will work for what I do in my own shop.
I wasn't too worried about the brand as much as I was the online seller.
I helped a buddy do some fabrication & used his Harbor Freight 40A cutting 1/4" & 3/8" material I was quite surprised how well it worked for a $800 plasma cutter.

Now I am curios. IIRC reading some of your threads over the years, I had the impression you were some sort of a supervisor for a large plumbing company in Seattle (you are just a little south of me).
What are you doing with such a nice "blue" machine? That's a awesome welder when you use it for pulsed MIG.Martin
Yeah, I'm a supervisor for large condo projects----- still a plumber though.
I picked up the XMT a month ago used, but too good of a deal to pass up.
I don't have any accessories for it yet----- first thing will be a spool gun & a foot pedal.
I'm selling my HarborFake welder (110 amp AC/DC) very little use---- duty cycle is too small for stick welding anything bigger than 1/8", but when I ran my tig on it, it went non stop.

From a google search I found their ebay store.
A lot of issues with some buyers. Did a reverse phone number look-up on a number there and it tracks back to Gretchen International. Sounds like an importer. China stuff. BBB didn't have anything on the company, but then again it could be a shell.
Their web site you posted didn't have any contact info or such. That always scares me.
Caveat emptor.
Impossible is an opinion.
A couple of christmas's (?) ago we bought a toy we couldnt find anywhere from an online store that seemed kind of legit, but she didnt look too deep.
Well obviously we got screwed out of 75 bucks, and the dissapointment, spent quite some time filing complaints with BBB but they didnt even respond let alone help.
Save your self the headache I belive its too easy for online shops to get away with your money, let alone you wont get any customer service
Even if you get the cutter what if your missing parts for a unknown name brand tool you wont be able to find them
I doubt youll be happy in the end
Over the years I have "frankensteined" enough tools to get a working model, that doesn't always bother me.
I need to follow the advice I give my apprentices, & what all you guys are reminding me of.
If it sounds to good to be true it probably is.

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
OK, I clicked on the link and my virus scanner (Avast) reported a virus and aborted downloading the page.
WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING
If I leave it on the homepage it eventually defaults to that google image error.
