C purlin receiver channel overhang
Hi I’m looking to build a 15’ x 53’ carport on the side of my house. The construction will be 8 in c purlin and receiver channel. My question is that where I thought I would have a post there is a power utility line underground. I’m wondering if I can overhang a 14 gauge 8” x 2.5” @ 20’ receiver channel to avoid having a post (red in the sketch). The carport will attach to the house which is slump block. 12 ft of receiver channel would attach to house with masonry bolts, 8 ft would overhang. Does this sound feasible?

More info needed.
Regional names for products (like "slump block") need to be better defined.
Actual brand of steel channels would be helpful.
Your location matters - will this have to be designed for snow loading or just heavy rain loading? Pitch required for drainage?
Cantilevers greater than 25% of the main span (i.e. 0.25 X 12' = 4') general become problematic.
Looks doubtful that it will be adequate.
Thank you, I’m going to add a post. Seems wiser to actually locate the utility line, then add a post out of the way.
