Hello to all. Got a old kitchen with that pickle green look to them. The cabinets themselves are good. So I’d like to give it a shot to refinish them. Question is what type of finish is good for kitchen cabinets. As you can see from the picture I’ve sanded down some of the cabinet. It’s coming out pretty good. If anyone could tell what kind of wood that would be great too. I might just redo the frames and get some new doors. Thanks for any help

Looks like Birch to me--but then again I couldn't stand back far enough to get around the extreme close up--JK
Are you looking to paint--then I would enamal them, way tougher but it is an oil product and needs to be sprayed to come out smooth.
If the are Birch and they finish nice then how about a nice clear laquar, again sprayed but would let the wood show thru.

Theres usually good reason why cabinets are painted in the first place. They're built with "paint grade" lumber. Unless you're the one who painted them you're setting yourself up for disappointment if you invest a lot of labor into the project
Consider painting them a color you could live with
