I am debating on wheather to have my cabinets refaced or replaced. They are in good shape, I just dont like the look.
What is the cost difference? I know refacing is much less invasive, which is a good thing.
Thanks

Depends. Are you adding any cabs? Are you doing it yourself? if you were to replace the cabinets what would be your price point?
The refacing companies claim a lot more, but the times I have compared for clients it seemed to average about a 30-35% savings. but of course it would depend on what cabinets you would pick for a total redo.
I have never seen a good reface job. They all have looked like a cheap reface.
Doesn't mean that someone out there doesn't do a good job. I just haven't seen it.
Well it all depends. Sense I cant see your cabs there are a couple of things that could happen.
1) Sometimes the F/F are kinda just tacked on the boxes. so you can remove the F/F replace them with new and replace drawers/fronts and Doors.. It would be more expensive then a normal reface.
2) You can add a thing cut piece of wood attach to F/F and replace soors/drawers-fronts. Still pricey but less than the previous still look good.
3) Use peel/stick veneer attach to F/F replace drawer fronts/Doors.. standard refaceing..can look good depends on contractor.
So there are some options but it all boils down to how much $$$$ you want to invest.

It really depends on what you have to work with # 1 and what you want to end up with # 2.
If the drawer boxes and slides and such will need retro fitting as well as new doors and drawer faces and hinges the cost compared to new cabinets may not be much lower .
You said the cabinets are in good shape you just don't like the look , perhaps refinishing or maybe even painting the cabinets and putting new handles and pulls and perhaps new countertops and flooring or lighting , these type of changes can be very cost effective and create dramatic changes .
I have bid several kitchens that the refacers wanted almost the same as the new would cost .
good luck dusty
